Welcome to the Interactive Bird Topography. What is Topography? Well, it is basically a map of the outside of the bird. Knowing the parts of a bird help birdwatchers describe to others what they have seen.
To start, just click on a part of the bird below. There are thirty different parts of this bird. Not all of these parts stand out in every species of bird. For example, it would not be useful to describe the throat of an American Crow because it is black, just like the rest of its body. But when describing a White-throated Sparrow, it would be very helpful to describe this part of the bird.
